In a world where sustainability is increasingly important, the brewing industry has a vital role to play. On a recent visit to Brooklyn, I discovered Kings County Brewers Collective (KCBC) – an innovative brewery that not only breathes new life into Bushwick’s historic brewing neighborhood but also champions environmentally friendly, locally brewed beer.

Finding a Community-Focused Brewery with an Eco-Conscious Vision

When I first stepped into KCBC, I was struck by its vibrant atmosphere, friendly staff, and the colorful, creative artwork adorning its walls. The brewery has become a hub for local artists, with each beer label showcasing unique and imaginative designs that truly capture the essence of Brooklyn’s creative spirit.

Since opening in 2016, KCBC has been the first brick-and-mortar production brewery to operate in Bushwick in over 40 years. The founders, a passionate team of brewers, have successfully created a welcoming space that seamlessly blends high-quality beers, community engagement, and environmental responsibility.

Tasting the Local Flavors: Unforgettable Beers

As an eco-minded beer lover, I was thrilled to learn about KCBC’s commitment to using locally sourced ingredients. By collaborating with nearby farmers and suppliers, the brewery not only minimizes transportation-related emissions but also supports the regional economy. Tasting the unique beers on tap, I couldn’t help but feel a connection to the flavors and character of Brooklyn.

Some of the standout beers I had the pleasure of trying during my visit included:

Silver Shadow: A rich and robust Imperial Stout with a 14.5% ABV, boasting complex flavors of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruits.

Viva Las Helles: A crisp and refreshing Lager – Helles with a 4.5% ABV, offering a light, smooth, and balanced taste.

Z•O•M•B•I•E•S: A delightful 5.5% ABV Sour – Fruited beer, bursting with bright, tangy fruit flavors and a satisfying tart finish.

Strictly Chronic: An American IPA with a 7.0% ABV, featuring a delightful blend of citrus and pine notes, balanced by a solid malt backbone.

Conserving Water, Energy, and Resources

Throughout my visit, I discovered that KCBC is dedicated to minimizing its environmental impact. The brewery employs water-saving techniques and energy-efficient systems, such as LED lighting and well-insulated brewing vessels. I was also impressed to learn that KCBC donates spent grains, a byproduct of the brewing process, to local farms for use as animal feed or compost – a true testament to their waste reduction efforts.

Building a Shared Commitment to Environmental Stewardship

KCBC’s dedication to educating and engaging the local community about sustainable brewing practices was evident throughout my time there. The brewery regularly hosts events like tours and tastings, fostering a sense of connection between KCBC and its patrons. As I chatted with fellow beer enthusiasts, it became clear that we all shared a deep appreciation for the brewery’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

My experience at Kings County Brewers Collective was truly memorable, not only for the fantastic beers and captivating artwork but also for the eco-friendly ethos that permeates every aspect of the brewery. KCBC has shown me that with passion, creativity, and a commitment to the environment, the brewing industry can continue to evolve towards a greener future.
